Mexicans
No one seems to ride their bike in the street anymore in Philly. Everyone is on the sidewalk. Aside from the fact that it’s illegal and annoying, I think it’s just wrong. I don't want to dodge moving vehicles as I’m trying to negotiate a street full of sidewalk cafés. Philadelphia is quickly losing it’s reputation as a pedestrian-friendly city.
Anyway, about 90% of them are Mexican. They are very polite and don’t seem to expect anyone to get out of their way, which is nice. I started paying attention and I see a Mexican on a bike on the sidewalk about once every two blocks. This is true anytime, day or night. I swear. I figure there are hundreds of Mexicans crisscrossing Center City Philadelphia at all times. Why? It’s a mystery.
